"Glassblowing allows me to explore both painterly concerns and my fascination with surface decoration, while continuing to challenge the other physical and creative skills required to take the vessel shape in ever new directions.
It is a rare talent to conceive and create art that is recognized around the world as among the very best. Such is the talent of Robert Held. His work can be found in many distinguished collections - the Roland Michener, the Indusman and even the goblets in "The Perfect Setting" currently gracing the table of the Governor General of Canada. Robert Held holds an impressive position as one of the fathers of North America's Art Glass Movement, and his individual creations are simply magnificent.

| GlassMaster Don Maclennan - hothead glass
|
BIOGRAPHY
Don MacLennan was raised on the west coast of Canada. After completing his studies at the University of British Columbia, he moved to eastern Canada and now resides in Toronto, Ontario. After a career in restaurant management, he returned to his studies, first in environmental design and eventually in glass at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. He has been an artist in residence at the Living Arts Center in Mississauga, Ontario since his graduation in 1997.
"I am very much driven by color and form in my work. I feel that my upbringing in the natural beauty of British Columbia weaves its way into my work, although it is not something that I do consciously. I am often amazed by how my work evolves to reflect the environment of my youth." The fact that Don focuses on Environmental Design during his schooling in Ontario, prior to his studies in glass, is not surprising. His works are a blend of natural colours in simple understated forms-functionally elegant. His work exhibits wind, water and wave motifs, reflecting Don's affinity for the natural environment as well as his upbringing in coastal British Columbia.
